About this service
The Barking and Dagenham and Havering Home Treatment Team (HTT) is a specialist crisis service providing acute mental health crisis interventions for adults aged 18 to 65 whose mental health crisis is so severe that they would otherwise require admission to a psychiatric hospital. Service Overview: The HTT is an integrated service for people with severe and complex mental and behavioural disorders such as: • Schizophrenia • Bipolar affective disorder • Severe depressive disorder • Other acute mental health crises Treatment is usually provided in your own home, offering intensive support during crisis periods. The Multidisciplinary Team includes: • Psychiatrists • Psychologists • Community mental health nurses • Social workers • Occupational therapists • Support, time and recovery workers Key Benefits: • Prevents unnecessary hospital admission • Achieves the highest level of functioning in the least restrictive setting • Facilitates rapid discharge if you’re already in hospital • Provides respite and support for carers The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring crisis support is always available.
How they can help you
When you’re experiencing a severe mental health crisis, the HTT provides intensive, immediate support in your own home or community setting. This prevents the need for hospital admission while still providing the urgent care you need. The multidisciplinary team works intensively with you and your carers to stabilise the crisis and help you recover.
What to expect
When you contact the service during a crisis, you’ll be assessed by the Acute Crisis and Assessment Team (ACAT) to determine if home treatment is appropriate. If accepted, the HTT will provide intensive support, typically visiting you at home regularly during the acute crisis period. A care plan will be developed and you’ll work with the multidisciplinary team to manage your crisis and work towards recovery.
